Dental crowns: types and features

Almost every person is brushing his teeth in the hope that the dental problems of the dental crowns will not affect him. But, due to genetic or anatomical features, improper cleaning or other reasons, it is necessary to visit.

So, let’s figure it out …

What is “dental crowns” and is it worth to be afraid of them?

Crowns on the tooth are necessary when you are destroyed, broken, changed color or cracked tooth and there is no way to use the seal. With their help, you can restore chewing function, prevent the development of an incorrect bite, and also acquire the aesthetic beauty of a smile.

If necessary, the dental crown is determined first, it will be a restorative (serves to restore the tooth) or supporting (necessary for restoring the support to the installed bridge). The nature of damage and the peculiarities of the dentition are of key importance.

How to choose

Crowns on the teeth – it’s not at all scary, it is only right to choose a dentist to decide which ones to choose crowns for teeth, based not only on the financial state of the wallet, but also on the life, merits and demerits of a particular species. And they are:

Metal – this is a long time known and very economical crowns on the tooth. They are made of steel (with or without coating) or gold. There can be stamped crowns (made with sleeves and fitted directly during installation), and cast crowns (cast according to individual models of wax and cast in special furnaces). Such crowns on teeth in Kiev are not popular due to unaesthetic appearance.

Cast crowns are molded on a special cast from the integral construction of strong materials (cobalt-chrome alloy), which subsequently helps to avoid erasures and gaps. And if the color of the crown does not suit, then it is possible to apply gold or ceramic spraying.

Such crowns, although not very popular due to unaesthetic appearance, but they are durable and are inexpensive. You do not have to hear the terrible sound of a dental machine for a long time, because you can put a crown on the tooth in Kiev with a gentle turning. There is another disadvantage of such a crown – it is loose fit, which leads to the ingress of saliva and other microorganisms under the crown and leads to further destruction of the tooth.

Stamped crowns are created by stamping with special blanks (sleeves). Their advantages include low price and the absence of depulpation of the tooth before its installation, the choice of the color of natural teeth. But because of the thin walls, the prosthesis is quickly erased, the shape of the tooth is not exactly repeated, the pieces of food fall under the gum due to loose loosening of the neck of the tooth.

Types of crowns on teeth

To achieve a more aesthetic appearance, in modern dentistry, other materials were used to make the crown using the methods of casting and stamping:

1. Ceramic, which does not contain metal and manufactured by casting. They will not differ from natural teeth, but the service life is not more than 15 years.

2. Porcelain, which are installed only on one tooth and not inferior to ceramic in time.

Interesting to know: Porcelain crowns – this is a real work of art, the manufacture of which should be handled by a specialist in this field, so the price for them is very high.

3. Plastic dental crowns are used only in emergency cases. But acrylic, which is used to make these prostheses, can cause allergic reactions or permanently injure the gum.

4. Zirconium crowns – the most optimal option, they are maximally adjusted to the tooth, without injuring the gum, hypoallergenic, with a life of about 20 years. But because of the high cost of material, the cost of manufacturing will be high.

5. Titanium crowns are made from titanium dioxide and have not only low cost, but a lot of flaws. For example, unaesthetic appearance, poor fit to the gum, rapid erosion due to the flat surface of the tooth.

Layers and device

The combined crowns on teeth consist of two layers: inside – metal and outside – facing from ceramics, plastic, porcelain or other composite materials.

Such crowns are inexpensive and, probably, are the most popular due to their longevity and the absence of depulpation of the tooth. The only drawback, probably, will be the need for a strong turning of the tooth.

No wonder many people turn to specialists in aesthetic restoration of teeth to put a crown on the tooth and give their smile beauty. After all, problems are not only in the form of a spoiling tooth, but, for example, curvature of the dentition. So do not be afraid to go to the dentist.
